The new Spring 24 Academy collection has arrived.
The Spring 24 Sassoon Academy collection has arrived and we are excited to be offering three new collection step-by-steps techniques from the new collection, available at Sassoon Online
The Rouge SS24 collection from Sassoon takes inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelites of the Rossetti generation. It takes a fresh look at the romantic portraits of English, poet, illustrator and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti and is also inspired by the poem “What is Pink” by English artist Christina Rossetti. These elements juxtapose with The Heroic Rose created in 1938 by Swiss-born, German abstract artist Paul Klee. The collection celebrates these three influential figures and their creative approach to art, love and life, in particular their work with design, drawing, painting and photography, reimagining and channelling their work to create today’s modern pre-Raphaelites, the new Rossetti’s.
The Cut and Colour techniques for the collection feature an array of lengths, shapes and textures based on Sassoon heritage and classic ABC techniques, including intricate details that create big, bold silhouettes with playful & dynamic interior lengths, personalised to the wearers grace and attitude. The colour techniques cover different shades of reds, graduating from cool to warm, dark to light, creating Harmonic effects that accentuate the three dimensional nature of the shapes.
Cutting Technique
The cuts use three methods that work on a variety of lengths and shapes within an extreme range of textures.
The ROSE is intrinsic to the first technique and is used as a motif for an exercise in geometry. It plays with the use of intricate Trapezoid, Triangular and Pentagonal panels creating sectioning patterns that are explored with the use of invisible disconnection to create Big & Bold silhouettes.
The 2nd Cutting Technique revisits channel cutting, first developed in the early eighties post punk period. The ROSE motif is used again, this time taking the Sectioning pattern for a walk, with the sense of “one eye sees, the other feels where to remove weight”, inspired by Paul Klees “Taking the line for a walk” which underlies the dynamic nature of the line as the means to conduct the human eye across the space of a painting or a drawing.
The 3rd cutting method uses a vector line, an architectonic observation where a zig zag section pattern is drawn vertically or horizontally to remove weight internally with the use of disconnection whilst retaining length on the exterior, creating an unexpected, dynamic punked out texture.
All 3 cutting methods immerse the student in a creative thought process with a definite structure, while designing hair with the end in mind.
Colour Technique
The rose is once again the motif for the colour techniques of the collection. The colours are a variety of different tones of reds, whether more crimson, magenta and titian, even the blondes have a slight reddish hue.
This time the colours and subtle shade variations of the red rose provide the platform with the sentiment extracted from the poem “What is Pink” by Christina Rossetti. The techniques are definite, solid sections of colour, creating a statement and amplifying the dynamic of the shape. Inspiration from the art of Paul Klee is also a factor this season, using the lengths of the hair to paint misshapen patterns of contrasting tones through the natural red bases. The looks cover different shades of reds, graduating from cool to warm, dark to light creating harmonic colours and subtle effects that add texture and dynamic movement to the dynamic nature of the shapes.
